"Before, I was walking around every day in a cloud of doom. Now, I am a new person. This treatment changed my whole life."

My life was in slow motion. I was not active at all. My doctor told me my bloodwork was poor, and that I should take the recommended supplements–I was low in Vitamin D and Vitamin B12. Within just a few days of taking the supplement, I wanted to be around other people. I’m telling you, it was an extreme change. I wanted to do more, to be more. I became more active, more alert mentally. Only 3 days of taking the medicine, and I was ready to go! Emotionally, I’m not stressed, I have more energy. Before, I was walking around every day in a cloud of doom. I am a whole new person. This treatment changed my whole life.

"She was finally able to go to the homecoming dance and hang out with other students."

Ethos biochemical assessment testing changed the life of a 17-year-old patient. She had a history of chronic depression, anxiety and insomnia for as long as her mother can remember. When she initially came into the clinic, she wouldn't speak to the provider and her mom did most of the talking for her. Her mother informed the provider that she was experiencing severe anxiety, depression and also had trouble speaking, but she wouldn't take any medications to relieve her symptoms.

She put her head down when she walked, covered her face with her hair, and often refrained from verbal communication. Initially, the provider was unsure how to help this patient because she wasn’t receptive to any treatments or recommendations.

Then, the provider mentioned the Ethos biochemical assessment test to the patient and her mother and she was surprisingly receptive. Once the results came in, the provider identified that her 5-HIAA level was at the bottom end of the spectrum, and indicated that her serotonin turnover levels were low, which could be causing her anxiety and depression symptoms. After seeing these results, the patient and her mother were more receptive to treatment.

The patient was started on the recommended treatment and within weeks of starting the treatment, the patient could feel the effects. Her whole demeanor changed when she came back into the office. She was much more talkative, didn't put her hair over her face at all, and had a much better outlook on life. She was able to go to her senior homecoming dance for the first time, attend football games, and hang out with other students.

"Her fibromyalgia pain improved, and she felt more energized and less depressed."

This patient was experiencing chronic pain from osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia, mild lupus, edema, perimenopausal depression, fatigue, and attention deficit syndrome. Her Ethos biochemical assessment test revealed Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 deficiencies as well as elevated inflammatory markers.

The results prompted us to look at her MTHFR alleles, which showed impaired methylation. With this information, we started the patient on Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate) and Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin) which has greatly relieved her fibromyalgia pain, improved her depression symptoms, and energy levels.

We added Quercetin which has helped with the edema and joint pain as well. The biomarkers helped us to improve her function and reduce her symptoms over what the plain pain medications were doing. Additionally, the combination of B-12 and B-6 deficiencies (notably her CBC, MCV, and serum B-12 levels were all 'normal') prompted us to look at her methylation status, and we found she had the MTHFR 1298 SNP, so her regular 'multivitamins' were simply not going to work.

Follow-up testing with Ethos showed that all of the biomarkers had normalized.

"We wouldn't have known to pursue this pathway without Ethos Biomarkers testing giving us direction."

A patient with chronic, non-surgical back pain required narcotics and physical therapy. Some of his medications were not helpful for his neuropathic/radicular pain.

The patient's Ethos biochemical assessment screening revealed a Vitamin B6 deficiency, elevated levels of inflammatory markers, as well as elevated 3-HPMA and abnormal 5-HIAA.

When we checked the MTHFR alleles, and they were normal, we still wound up using methylated B vitamins, assuming the methylation defect is likely in the B-12/B-6 dependent pathways. His neuropathic pain subsided greatly, which was the component the hydrocodone wouldn't touch, so he now is very functional at home and work. We wouldn't have known to pursue this pathway without the biomarkers giving us direction.

"Deficiencies were treated with supplements instead of opiates."

When a patient with a history of drug and opiate abuse reported symptoms of fatigue and insomnia and pain, the physician was extremely hesitant to prescribe any opiates to the patient.

Biomarker testing revealed three deficiencies, and the physician treated them with the proper supplements.

The next time this patient was seen, a couple weeks after she started taking the supplements, she reported that her severe ankle pain was completely gone now. She was so happy that her physician ordered this test, and was very appreciative he took the time to go through the results and actually treat the deficiencies. She noted that she would continue to take these supplements regularly.
